Vassar schools close out last year's budgets and open the new ones, with four staff resignations accepted

Vassar Public Schools Board of Education · June 30, 2026 (special meeting) · Minutes status: NOT approved until signed — the document itself says “Minutes are not considered approved until signed”

What happened: The board unanimously approved the final 2025-2026 General Fund, Food Service, Special Activities, and Scholarship budgets, and unanimously approved the original 2026-2027 budgets for those same funds. In the same consent agenda, the board accepted four resignations: Erin Raymond (6-12 Principal), Jacob Barger (6-12 Government Teacher), Joshua Barton (6-12 Special Education Teacher), and Matthew Davis (Bus Driver).

Why it matters: Closing a budget year and opening the next one in the same meeting is routine, but it is also the moment the district's actual spending is locked in for the record. The minutes do not give dollar totals for these budgets in the text provided — they record the approvals “as presented.” Do not add totals from elsewhere without a source.

Superintendent Steve Clark thanked Shona Vennevy for budget work, said support-staff negotiations were almost done on language updates, and said the Filter First project should be wrapping up, with new water stations funded by a grant. Dates to remember in the minutes: first day for staff August 4, 2026, district open house August 6, first day of school August 10.

What happens next: Next regular meeting listed in the minutes: July 14, 2026, 6:00 PM.
